About Hock Tools

Ron Hock started out as a short-run and custom knife maker, working from a backyard shop and selling at craft fairs. He made his first batch of plane blades when a few people at James Krenov's Fine Woodworking Program at the College of the Redwoods cajoled him to make some blades for the planes they crafted as part of their curriculum. They were so well received by the woodworking community that Ron soon found himself making tools exclusively for woodworkers.

For the next 17 years, Hock Tools hand crafted blades to satisfy the demands of the most discriminating professionals. Shaping, bevelling and slotting was done by hand grinding and precision machining using manual machine tools.

The business continued to grow until, in the late 1990s, Ron moved production of some of the blades to a family operated high-precision factory in France. Ron was careful to ensure all alloy and hardness specifications remained the same and that Hock Tools stayed focused on the suitability to purpose for all products.

Hock Blades are thicker than most OEM blades and offer superior stability and precise adjustment. The use of high-carbon tool steel, properly hardened, ensures they take a keen edge and are straightforward to sharpen.
